Read Story So Far

Into the Deep Catacombs...

Ah, hello there young neopet! I see you have come for a story. We have many stories here, many tales to be told and read. Look around at these shelves, and delve into as many books as you want. I guarantee there will always be more than you could possibly imagine.

Go on, don't be shy! Look, they're even divided by type of story. Over here, I have adventure stories. If you're looking for romance, try that shelf. Oh, and don't forget the biographies.

If you're looking for history, we have that, too. I'm afraid that much of our source material is in storage, but you can enter that through the side door over there.

Chosen Option: Leave the library

And outside we find...

You decide the library and librarian are a bit too creepy for you. You exit the front door and stare around at the huge cavern that comprises the Deep Catacombs.

As you wander around, you automatically glance over the activities available. Some pets are reading poetry in one corner. Some aishas are telling stories around a campfire. There's the coffee shop, too, and of course the art gallery.

You grin as you catch sight of your reflection in the crystallized surface of the cave wall. As expected, you see a...

Chosen Option: Vampiric Grarrl, with pale scales, red eyes, and a long black cloak.

Gaelan's Quest

You, Gaelan Legarro, are surprised that you can still find something creepy. Perhaps it is the strong semblance the place bears to the library of a certain sage friend of yours who was transfigured by von Roo, or just that the unknown still bears a certain reluctance to you... but there is no time to worry about it.

You shun the mortal beings and their campfire for the banality that they hold, and press on deeper into the Catacombs. The air is dank, and the stone walls are slightly moist. You consider trying to find your way back home to the castle - but you are stopped short in your thoughts by the distinct scrape-shuffle sound behind you. Whirling in a blur of quickened reflexes and black cape, you turn to face your worst enemy!

He sneers evilly, and...

Chosen Option: advances until he is interrupted by someone else...

A mysterious rescuer

Gaelan's already cold blood chilled even further as he saw his tormentor.

"Ah, my little vampire hunter," Von Roo chuckled. "I see you are still resisting your new destiny. But that won't last long!" His wild laughter echoed off the tunnel walls as he began closing in.

Gaelan backed up slowly. Old habits began bringing up mental curses, charms, and other magical weapons of defense against vampires- but all of them were based on a life and light which was now in his past. A vampire being savaged by another vampire, he thought bleakly. I suppose there is something ironic about that.

Von Roo continued his slow advance. "Oh, no need to run, my pretty. This won't hurt a bit- not even as much as our last meeting did!"

Gaelan didn't bother to respond but simply kept a wary eye on his opponent. Just as he was bracing himself to dodge the expected lunge, a blast of golden light left him totally blinded. He rubbed at his eyes, trying to clear away the spots. His sensitive hearing had been hammered as well, so it was a few seconds before he realized that a golden figure in a dark coat and hat was staring at him.

Gaelan stared back. The stranger was a uni, obviously- the horn was proof of that. He held a grand lightning beam and moon staff, apparently the cause of the blast which had turned Count Von Roo into the huddled lump of black on the floor between them. He seemed a bit surprised, though he hid it well.

Gaelan's habit of silence finally won out. The unicorn satisfied himself with a nod and a tip on his hat brim in salute, which was returned. As he left, Gaelan wondered what he would have done if the vampire's victim had actually been... normal... instead of another vampire. Ah, well.

Gaelan bent over his now silent and motionless enemy. There was no way that even those weapons that he had seen should produce such an effect on a vampire as mighty as Von Roo. His sensitive nostrils caught the whiff of a powerful light magic, and he backed off, choking at its presence. Well that explained that.

Gaelan spent a minute composing himself mentally. There'd been too many surprises lately, too many things to upset his routine. And routine, even if it was dreary and soul-crushing, was often the only thing that kept him going when there was no other cause. One existed...

On the other hand, did Count Von Roo still exist? He didn't know. He wasn't sure he cared...
