Read Story So Far

Into the Deep Catacombs...

Ah, hello there young neopet! I see you have come for a story. We have many stories here, many tales to be told and read. Look around at these shelves, and delve into as many books as you want. I guarantee there will always be more than you could possibly imagine.

Go on, don't be shy! Look, they're even divided by type of story. Over here, I have adventure stories. If you're looking for romance, try that shelf. Oh, and don't forget the biographies.

If you're looking for history, we have that, too. I'm afraid that much of our source material is in storage, but you can enter that through the side door over there.

Chosen Option: Browse the adventure stories

Did anyone say boo?

You wander over to the shelves holding the adventure stories. A quick scan confirms the librarian's assertion. All sorts of spine-tingling adventures await!

You mull over which story to start reading. There's several stories with the usual sorts of dangers in them- The Esophagor, the Ghost Lupe, and other spooks. Then there's stories of pet-eating cannibals on Mystery Island, spooky tombs in the Lost Desert, lost caverns of ice in Terror Mountain...

The list goes on and on, and so does the clock as you enjoy looking through the options. Better make a decision as to which story you want to read, and ignore those shadows moving in the corner.

Chosen Option: Choose a Book

Hm...What Shall I Read?

You walk up to a shelf, searching through the titles, trying to find one that looks at least remotely interesting.

"Boring...boring...read it...boring..." you mutter. Then, "Hm, this looks good."

You take the book off the musty shelf and bring it to a small table with a lamp on it and two chairs close by. Everything seems lightly coated in dust, but you find the chairs are more comfortable than you thought they would be, and not only does the lamp actually work, its bright enough that you can read your book easily.

You sit down in one of the chairs and lay the book out on the table. Just before you open it up and start to read, you look at the title once more, which is...

Chosen Option: The Name-Change Potion

Oh, What's In a Name?

"Do I really have to wear this, BbHtrYoink?"

A Fire Lupe examined himself in the mirror, trying to pull off the name tag his owner had gently placed on his chest. He kept tugging at it, trying to ignore the pain that was coming from the fur he was jerking out. He finally gave up and looked pleadingly at his owner.

A pre-teen boy with brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses looked back at him sternly. "We're going to a party with all my NeoFriends, and most of them don't know you. I know you don't like it, but the name tag stays, BobIsForever." The Lupe winced at his name. "Why did you have to give me that dorky name anyway? Not to mention your own! I can barely pronounce it!" The boy sighed. "We've been over this a million times before. I was new to Neopia, this was my first account, and you were my first pet. I didn't know what sort of names would be 'cool' and so I decided just to name you BobIsForever. For myself, I just typed in a bunch of random letters, and then Yoink, as an afterthought. Though I mostly just go by Yoink now," he concluded.

"Well, I mostly go by Bob now, or sometimes just Forever, so couldn't you put that on my name tag instead?" BobIsForever whined.

"No, I would prefer that all my NeoFriends know your real name. You're welcome to tell them that you like to be called Bob, but because your name is BobIsForever, thats what your name tag says."

"Alright, enough arguing," called a voice from across the room of their NeoHome. "Can we leave now?" TLC4me, BbHtrYoink's second pet, was combing her hair once more. Since she went to the Secret Laboratory every day, she kept changing, but right now, she was an Electric Usul, and she wanted to get to the party quickly so she could show off her new color to everyone there.

"Yeah, its time for us to go. Come on, you two," said BbHtrYoink as he walked to the door and held it open for his pets.

As BobIsForever trudged out the door, he tried to hide his name tag from anyone who might see it. He looked jelously at TLC4me, who had a much better name than his own. "I wish I could change my name somehow. And I don't mean a nickname or something, I mean my real, official name!" BobIsForever muttered under his breath, not responding when his owner asked him what he had said.
