Read Story So Far

Into the Deep Catacombs...

Ah, hello there young neopet! I see you have come for a story. We have many stories here, many tales to be told and read. Look around at these shelves, and delve into as many books as you want. I guarantee there will always be more than you could possibly imagine.

Go on, don't be shy! Look, they're even divided by type of story. Over here, I have adventure stories. If you're looking for romance, try that shelf. Oh, and don't forget the biographies.

If you're looking for history, we have that, too. I'm afraid that much of our source material is in storage, but you can enter that through the side door over there.

Chosen Option: Check out the side door

What a load of dust!

The side door creaks open and you step inside, trading the rather dimly lit library for an even darker chamber. It takes a minute to find the light switch, and the single bulb sheds only a small glow into a vast corridor crammed with junk.

After coughing on the dust, you poke around a bit. Source material, indeed! Here are shelves with ancient scrolls ready to tear at the slightest excuse. And here are boxes filled with musty old books that are bound in leather. The writing is worn mostly off of the covers.

Stepping back into the center of the room, you try not to pay any attention to the wavering shadows in the corners. Finally, you reach a decision.

Chosen Option: You decide to open a scroll

And we have a "POOOF"!

Gingerly reaching into the loaded shelf, you manage to pull out one of the ancient scrolls. It takes a while to clear out space on the floor, but eventually you have an open and level spot to unroll your find.

You unroll the scroll with the utmost of care, doing your absolute best to make sure that it doesn't rip any further. Suddenly a huge cloud billows upwards, and you scramble backwards, coughing.

"Ok, what's this?"

You look up into the eyes of a rather annoyed-looking genie. He's a purple wocky, very similar to the auction genie, but without her usual grin.

"I, uh, opened your scroll I guess."

"Oh, you did, eh? Well if you were expecting any wishes, forget it. I'm all out, and besides, you probably didn't do me any favor anyway."

"Oh, I wasn't, I wasn't! I didn't even know you were there! Uh, sorry to have bothered you, I'll just..."

The genie holds up a commanding paw. "Hold it right there, kiddo. Before you try any funny stuff, I've got just one thing to say..."

Chosen Option: How the genie got caught

It was like this...

"... when I was naive and young I would have thanked you, but by now I've noticed that people only release genies because their greedy, or by accident, such as yourself. Therefore I don't feel entitled to give you any gratitude.

"I tell you, the way I got caught up in that darn scroll is what someone did with my last wish. They did something rather complicated so I won't explain it, but it had something to do with this library and its books. It intrigued me so much that I came here and checked it out for myself. The problem was that it hadn't occured to the individual who used the wish, or myself for that matter, that there was no convieniet way out once you're in. After a long time I found a way out, but the scroll was physically closed till you released me, and now I'm free for good. But I had to use some fancy magic to manage it. So remember, before you take a book, assume there's now way out."

The genie disappears while you have no idea what it was talking about...
